As if my daily schedule isn't busy enough! I just return from a Thanksgiving getaway with the lady to visit her family in the east coast, specifically in Philadelphia and need to pack up this week since we are relocating, again. Nevertheless, we had a great time up in the north east with family and friends. I was anticipating a nightmarish travel and freezing weather in the east but neither occurred. Travel to LAX took a good 30 minutes at around 9:00 PM PST to catch a 12:30AM redeye flight. Suffice to say, we were twiddling our thumbs waiting to board for a good 2.5 hours.
In Philly, we had the opportunity to explore the Waterworks Museum at Fairmont Park and scope out the area surrounding the Philadelphia Museum of Art, including the infamous Rocky statue. Also, we were able to dive into the middle of the action and had some great Philly Cheesesteaks in South Street, after checking out Independence Center and the Liberty Bell and finally ending the day at Penn's Landing.
The weather in Philly remained at a constant 50 degrees in the day time and dips to 40 degrees at night and drops to 23 degrees after midnight. Nothing unbearable during our trip. On Saturday, we took a road trip down to Washington, D.C. to explore the National Mall and as many national monuments as we can. We left Philly at around 8:00AM and made a pit stop at Cracker Barrel in Maryland. We managed briskly explore four Smithsonian museums:
- United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
- Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum
- Smithsonian National Museum of American History
- Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History
Monuments and landmarks we were able to explore includes the George Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial Monument, Thomas Jefferson Monument and Capitol Hill. All in all, the trip was very educational and lots of fun. I've had the opportunity to take a lot of photos during my stay, which I will subsequently upload to my flickr account.
At the conclusion of this trip, two places are etched off of my to-go bucket list :). Pretty cool, if I must say so myself!
