Throughout the course of owning the Acura RSX, I’ve went through two sets of PIAA Plasma Ion Yellow 168 wedge bulbs. They were installed into the front facing parking lights inside the head lights (aka city lights). The first set lasted me about 6 years before they went out of commission. I like them because they are very yellow and bright for a 5 W bulb. I’d get them in LED, but to-date, I have yet to come across any LED bulbs that are available in close to the 3000K temperature color range that’s given off by these PIAA bulbs. The bulbs are sold in this small package, usually for $10-$16 a pair:
This is how the light shines at night:
Notice how bright these yellow PIAA bulbs are as the passenger parking light illuminates the side wall. As the photos depicts, the yellow color emitted by these bulbs is a crisp golden color; not amber or pale / whitish-yellow. Solid 3000K yellow. And they also match the Ion Crystal Yellow 65 W 9005 bulbs by Nokya in the high beam housings.
Here is a photo of the PIAA bulbs in my old 2005 Acura RSX Type-S. The photo was taken in April of 2005:
The left light is the stock halogen 168 wedge bulb while the right light is the PIAA Plasma Ion Yellow bulb.
If you like “JDM” yellow or would like to move away from stock halogen, standard amber or white LED colors, give these bulbs a try. I’ll be reviewing 35 W H11 5000K HID conversion kit by Xentec and I think I’ve figured out a way to get rid of the infamous “ground shadow” that plagues the Prius. I’ll have a write-up ready by next weekend.
