Balancing Act

2006-2011 Toyota Yaris fog light switch (Prius-compatible design vs. Prius-incompatible design)

I received a handful of messages regarding what fog light switch from a 2006-2011 Yaris is compatible with the 2012 3rd gen Prius. I’ve taken a photo of both so folks who want to add integrated fog lights to their non-5 models can avoid the headache of buying the wrong kit with the wrong switch.

Correct Yaris fog light switch.

The switch pictured above is the correct switch. I noticed that it fits both 2/5 door hatchbacks as well as 4-door sedan models. Things to look for:

  • Single piece (no adapter) design
  • Stubby and short

Pictured above is an incorrect fog light switch. I am not sure what vehicle this switch style belongs to but it is NOT compatible with your 2012 Toyota Prius. Things to look out for:

  • Two-piece design, notice the adapter along the perimeter of the switch. It’s 2-piece because the switch is removable from the adapter housing.
  • Tall and narrow switch design.

When in doubt, ask the seller for a picture of the switch before you buy. I received the wrong switch in my original Yaris kit but the seller was able to exchange the wrong switch for the correct one.

A correct switch will fit in any empty switch slot snug:

Here are some sample photos I’ve gathered on eBay:
